No Holds Barred

Cycling Videos on CyclingDirt

Last lap of Collegiate race at CX nationals. Sonntag Vs McDonald. Serious felonies going down. CX racing at its best. Cross dictum: "On the first and last laps everything is allowed - as long as you keep your hands on the bars"

Gearing up for Jingle

The highlight of Cross Racing in the Midwest. Jingle Cross Rock in Iowa City. Last year was the most fun I've ever had on a 'cross bike. Can't wait. Here's a recap.

More Cross Meanderings

Devils Cross, Bettendorf. Superb course put on by Dicecycling. A fast, bumpy, twisty, very technical rollercoaster. All about the handling. You missed it.

Devils CX - Triple Barriers. Note the different porting and remount styles.

Devils CX - Double Barriers
One crosser and his dog Image - Angy Snoop

Bubba CX#8 - Mt. Pleasant Winery. Haven't raced this series in St. Louis yet. After seeing this video it's definitely on the agenda. Maybe not the best cross course ever but pretty crazy. Check the crash at 1:30 and the route through the bar.

PBC Annual Donations

This year the PBC made two notable donations to the community: (1) Hult Health Care and (2) World Bicycle Relief. I have attached the two 'thank you' notes from each organization recognizing the PBC for our support.

Death by Cyclocross

Estabrook Park, Milwaukee - taking the lead and getting past lapped riders through whirligig.

Estabrook Park, Milwaukee - losing the lead through barriers.

Estabrook Park, Milwaukee - Cat 4s through barriers.

CROSS from Paul Michna on Vimeo.

Campton Cross - St CharlesUW Whitewater CX - we had to climb up the retarded hill 3 times per lap, hairpin into the beach and repeat. A lot steeper than it looks.
Campton Cross - Proctor takes the High road, Batman the low.

Indoor Training Week 1

Well, It's definitely started.....Hours of sitting on a stationary bike, sweat running down your face with nothing but a measly fan to cool you off. Wasn't this a sharp wake-up call to all the fantastic hours we will be sitting in Proctor this winter? Don't you love the Midwestern winters.
At least tonight, we got to watch Keanu Reeves in "The Matrix Revolutions." This isn't the best movie on earth, but it sure beats staring at Barton's rear for 70 mins now, doesn't it Jim?

Iceman Cometh...

Just over 72 hours until race time... and just over 74 hours until beer & brat time.

It hurts... to ride by yourself

3 hours today on the bike trying to get ready for the Iceman.  Been so long since I rode outside, I forgot I had to take food with me.  Amen for Casey's!

Last 30 minutes was murder.  Bonking sucks.  Barely managed to climb my way back on Koerner road.

Good news is that my power was good.  No test of the LT, but the tempo effort was on track.

Just saw the new Giant TCR Advanced SL!

If you get a chance, stop by Russell's and peek at the Giant TCR Advanced SL... very nice.  It's hidden down in the basement under lock and key.

Greg Takes 1st In Dixon Crit

Greg just rode away with first in Dixon. Good setting and good weather. Felt like it wasn't too hard, but averaged 275 watts. Now just chilling with my Pedialyte waiting for the next race to get started.

The short version:

Gateway Cup - Day 3 & 4

Not getting clipped in at the line sucks.  Started at the back, and worked my ass off to slowly climb through the 100+ field.  Corners were dreadfully slow, followed by hurculean sprints on the straights.  Zink got away with three to go, only to succumb to the uneven, rough corners. Bohm and I thought our positioning was good, but underestimated the size of the field.

Gateway Cup - Day 2

Beer helps ease the pain of starting a lead-out 1/2 mile from the finish. Just too damn excited to be on the final lap with Zink on my wheel. Usually he's somewhere off the front, and I'm off the back. Only Bohm was in the money... if you can call it that. $5 wouldn't even buy a round at Schlafly's afterwards.

Pace was high, positioning being the key. Only had one moment of concern when I was driven into the barricade with 3 laps to go. Fortunately the barricade had a banner over it that kept my bars from hooking it.

Tomorrow will bring better results.

Gateway Cup

Experienced my first crash ever in a crit tonight. Did the typical flip over the bars, and lucky for me landed on some other poor bastard. Broke the front brake lever, but then, who needs a front brake?

Zink made a couple breakaway attempts, but got reeled in each time. Pace was nutty fast. Average was 27mph and that was with a crash and noodling around to the neutral support. Only way to move up was on the outside. Believe Zink was top 20. Sprock was probably top 30. I was a few back from Sprock. Bohm was a few back from me.

Time for a couple beers and some pizza.
Future home of the Proctor Cycling Team. Check back for updates from the Gateway Cup.
